John Wauters

John Wauters is our Director of Operations and Lead Guide. He began guiding for HMH during the winter 2012, coming to us with an extensive guiding background in Jackson Hole and Alaska. He has worked for the JH Ski Patrol and is trained in Avalanche Hazard Reduction and Explosive Control. He is also a level III Avalanche Forecaster, trained Wilderness First Responder and holds certificates in CPR and Mountain Rescue. He has worked as a heli-ski guide for Valdez Heli Ski Guides and as lead guide for Alaska Backcountry Adventures. John has a degree in Geology with an emphasis on Glaciology, studying at Montana State U, Tufts U and U of Alaska. Previously a whitewater river guide in summer, John now works as a carpenter and lives with his family in Wilson year round.

Charlie Cornell

Charlie Cornell came to HMH in 2007 with an extensive background in avalanche hazard mitigation. He worked with the JH Ski Patrol since the early 90’s as an explosive coordinator assistant and lead blaster. He was hired by Snow Basin during the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics to do avalanche control and course safety. His credentials include OEC, CPR, avalanche forecasting, Teton County Search and Rescue, explosives trainer and tram evacuation. When the going gets tough and things get dicey, Charlie gets going. Charlie spent many summers as a fishing guide in western WY and now works as a carpenter. He spends most of the off seasons in Baja Mexico, where he owns property, enjoying surfing, fishing and tipping a Corona in between.

Craig Fischer

Craig Fischer began guiding for HMH in 2014, recently assuming a full time guiding role. He also works as a lead guide for Alaska Rendezvous Heli-Ski Guides in Valdez, AK. He’s been a Professional Ski Patroller since 2000 first at Snow King Resort and currently for the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. He is certified in Outdoor Emergency Care, CPR and holds an ATF letter of clearance as an Avalanche Blaster. He completed the Level III Avalanche Course in 1998 and is an Avalanche Rescue Dog owner/handler. Craig holds a BS from Baker University and became a high school biology teacher in Lusk, Wyoming shortly upon graduation in 1994. It wasn’t long before he moved to Jackson Hole to pursue a ski guide career and satisfy his passion for skiing. He’s a year round Jackson resident and owns and manages a painting business in summer.

Doug Workman

Doug Workman is a full time guide based in Jackson Hole. As well as guiding for HMH, Doug works for Valdez Heli Ski Guides, Jackson Hole Mountain Guides, the Alaska Mountaineering School, and Jackson Hole Ski Patrol. Doug has studied and taught avalanche safety for many years including working as an avalanche forecaster for the Utah Avalanche Forecast Center. Doug's professional training includes the AMGA ski mountaineering guide course, Level 3 Avalanche, and Winter Weather Forecasting. Whether working or playing, Doug can usually be found in the mountains skiing and climbing. He has skied the Grand Teton five times, Denali once, and has established first ascents in Pakistan's Karakoram Mountains, China's Tien Shan, and the Alaska Range.

Kent McBride

Kent started skiing and climbing in the Tetons in the 80’s and it soon became his home. In 2005, he and a friend were the first to ski the Untch Couloir off the central summit of Shishapangma (8,000m) without supplemental oxygen. Through his guiding he has been fortunate enough to adventure in 20+ countries. His experience came from those trips and over 20 seasons of heli-ski guiding around Alaska. Chasing his son around helps keep Kent safe and current with his skills and certifications.

Matt Lloyd

Matt Lloyd is a full-time guide on an endless pursuit to find the perfect powder turn. Matt celebrates a twenty-year outdoor career: he's a Level I-III Avalanche, American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA), and Wilderness First Responder (WFR)/ CPR accomplished ski guide. Matt also guides for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort's Alpine Guides, Teton Backcountry Guides, Yostmark Backcountry Tours as well as Jackson Hole Anglers in the summer. He is grateful for every backcountry moment and appreciates each uniquely special day in the mountains. Matt is blessed with the wonderful support of his wife, Kerry, and son, Brooks. Expect a fun and memorable day customized to your specific skill level and goals when exploring the mountains with Matt.

Matt Bohne

Matt works as a snowboarding guide for Valdez Heli Ski Guides, and he teaches avalanche education courses as an instructor for the American Avalanche Institute. Matt has also guided trips on the West Buttress of Denali for Mountain Trip, and he has led extended backcountry expeditions throughout Alaska, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico for NOLS and similar outdoor programs. Matt’s experience in the snow was built through countless personal days split boarding in the Wasatch and Teton ranges. He is a Wilderness First Responder and has completed Professional Avalanche Level 3 certification, winter weather forecasting training, and the AMGA Ski Guide Course. When he is not working in the mountains, Matt resides in Jackson where he works as a carpenter in the off season and spends all of his free time in the winter split boarding in Grand Teton National Park.

Dan Starr

Dan is a Professional Member of the American Avalanche Association with Level 3 Avalanche and UIAGM/ IFMGA Professional Mountain Guiding certifications. Dan has been living and skiing in Jackson Hole for the past two decades. Dan has guided skiing in Alaska’s Chugach Range, Morocco’s High Atlas Range, British Columbia’s Coast Range, Argentina’s Tierra Del Fuego, on the Antarctic Peninsula, and from the top of the Grand Teton. With twelve years of Ski Patrol experience in Jackson Hole and fifteen years of guiding in the Tetons, not only does Dan know the area pretty well, but he’s pretty sure the Tetons offer some of the best and most consistent ski conditions anywhere in the world.

Jim Kandolin

Jim is a Wyoming Native who has been guiding in the mountains around Jackson Hole for over 20 years. Skiing and Snowboarding has given him the opportunity to learn, work and ski in many spectacular places throughout the Western U.S, Canada, Alaska, and the French and Swiss Alps. He is a member of the AMGA (American Mountain Guides Association), American Avalanche Institute (Levels 1,2,&3), and is a National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care Provider. He holds a BA from the University of Wyoming. When not guiding, he carries on his work in real estate sales. Jim enjoys spending time with his wife, Jen, and their two children. Other interests include Mountain Biking, Climbing, and Fly-Fishing.

For over 40 years, High Mountain Heli-Skiing guides have been taking skiers to some of the finest powder on the continent. Our staff of professional guides is trained in Outdoor Emergency Care as provided by the National Ski Patrol, CPR, avalanche hazard forecasting and mountain rescue. All are active mountaineers who know the terrain and snow pack intimately. Guide school refreshers are conducted annually. Safety has always been our primary concern at HMH and all guides meet or exceed the standards set by the Heli-Ski US Association.
