Open your interactive packing checklist to check off your gear, save progress on this device, or print a copy.

Start with your own boots

Bring your ski or snowboard boots. HMH's trip-planning information specifically asks guests to supply their own, and familiar boots make far more sense than discovering an equipment problem at the base.

Arrange skis or a snowboard suited to the trip. If you need powder ski rentals, ask reservations about availability and the current price in advance. Confirm the fitting process and whether you should arrive early with your boots.

Dress for a winter day in the mountains

Bring the outerwear, layers and gloves you rely on for a full winter ski day. HMH's guidance recommends waterproof, breathable clothing and spare goggles or lenses. Check the forecast as part of packing and discuss any equipment questions with the team.

Choose gear that works well for you already. A heli day is an expensive time to test whether an unfamiliar boot, binding or clothing system fits your normal way of skiing. Confirm helmet and personal equipment requirements directly rather than making assumptions about what is supplied.

Know what HMH supplies

The operator lists an avalanche transceiver, an airbag pack with a shovel and probe, and a radio. The day starts with instruction on the equipment and on moving around the helicopter. Follow the team's procedures.

Do not treat a packing checklist as avalanche training or helicopter instruction. Those are matters for the professionals running the trip. Bring questions to the briefing and tell the team if anything is unclear.

The smaller details count

Bring a water bottle and let reservations know about dietary restrictions ahead of time. Lunch arrangements are part of the day; private groups can discuss the details with the team.

Check your reservation for the departure base, meeting time and transportation arrangements. Then make a short final check: boots, skis or board, outerwear, gloves, goggles, water and the confirmed meeting details. Leave the rest of the morning for getting ready to fly.

Match the gear to your plans

Use the heli-ski trip planner for ability and arrival details. If your party includes snowboarders, read the heli-snowboarding guide and discuss board and boot questions with reservations.
